Roots for New Haven Arts Council

Roots are a new series of art sketches. The first selection of these have been created for The Arts Council of New Haven for their annual “Somewhat Off The Wall” fundraising event. The event helps provide funds for the communities yearly art programming . The studio was thrilled to be a part of this great event. To see more pics of "roots" click here.

BenBlancStudio is thrilled to introduce several new sustainable designs developed exclusively for Cardboardesign and recently launched at the Javits center during the New York Gift Fair. The new fold up shark and puppet tv allows children to assemble, paint, draw, and play. The most exciting thing about these new products is that they are made from chemical free, recycled and recyclable cardboard. All of which is also made in America. Each design assembles without the use of any glue or tools. Upon the end of their useful life they can be flat packed and stored away or returned to the recycling bin.

The studio's heart shape measuring cups have been a fantastic success here in the states and its been an honor having them available via UrbanOutfitters and many other boutique stores across the country for the last 3 years. A misfortune of the design world is that because of their success they would inevitably be knocked off at some point. A special thanks goes to the handful of Chinese manufacturers who so deliberately knocked off the design....we are so flattered! Most astonishing of all is the lack of creativity shown in reproducing these cups, not a single edge, corner, or color has been changed in the slightest way. See for yourself in the images above. BenBlancStudio's originals are on the left and the knock offs being sold by a handful of Asian and European stores on the right. They are for all purposes exactly the same and now stores such as Robertgordonaustralia are profiting off the stolen designs of another studio, most likely with out knowing, but never the less blindly supporting this endeavor. Perhaps by nature this is part of design, just happens to be a very unfortunate side of it.

BenBlancStudio announces the launch of Catscratch for Cardboardesign. Recently making its debut at the Model Citizens show for ICFF 2009 these four iconic animals were designed exclusively for Cardboardesign and made entirely from eco-friendly recycled chemical free cardboard. As the norm all CBD products are environmentally responsible and made exclusively in the USA. Kitties got a new best friend...meow!

Model Citizens opening at Exit Underground 476 10th Avenue & 36th St. NY this Saturday 5.16.09. Cocktails will start flowing around 5PM. BenBlancStudio will be showing a new collection of work including RM Divider and Paper Lights, a set of recycled paper desk lights formed using the process of paper mache. There will also be work from 22 other emerging designers. Lots to see for sure...
